Our PRODUCT
ZH Flexible Propeller Shaft Coupling
Manufactured from a special bronze alloy, ZH require virtually no maintenance and containing no bearings or rubber in their construction. The knock on effect of using a ZH shaft coupling is that the forces typically generated from misalignment will not be transferred to the engine or transmission extending their life significantly.
Unlike existing shaft couplings ZH does not use rubber to dampen the vibrations or take out misalignment. ZH shaft couplings are special constant velocity joints that are able to resist the propeller thrust without the need for thrust bearings in most applications. They are extremely compact and able to transmit higher torque than other propeller shaft couplings with similar dimensions. In addition, as they do not use rubber as a vibration suppression device, they are an exceptionally long wearing marine coupling, with minimal maintenance needed.
CZ Shaft (Beam) Couplings
CZ Couplings: The CZ range of flexible shaft couplings, also known as a beam coupling, is an aluminium alloy, one piece configuration, which has been designed in-house at Reliance to provide very smooth transmission of motion, high torsional stiffness, low bearing loads, and long life. The patented slot pattern was developed after many months of analysis and test to provide the best balance between zero backlash, torsional stiffness and low bearing load, whilst attaining an operational life in excess of 50,000,000 cycles at rated load and 80% offset. With two sets of identical slots, the CZ flexible beam coupling is constant velocity by design and handles angular, parallel and axial offset. Available in sizes from 6 to 25 mm diameter and allowable speeds up to 70,000 rpm, our CZ couplings provides a very reliable one piece coupling design that approaches the performance of a bellows coupling.
Curved Jaw Couplings
Curved jaw shaft couplings are made up from two aluminum hubs and a central polyurethane element with curved faces. Curved jaw couplings are an ideal compact solution for high RPM applications requiring zero backlash and reducing system torque ripple. A choice of three damping elements for high, medium and low torques are available.
Technical features include:
-
Zero backlash
-
Alternative damping element hardness
-
Recommended temperature range -30ºC to +80ºC
-
Torque ripple reduction
-
Maintenance free
-
Bore sizes 6 mm to 12 mm
-
Set screw and clamp hub type fixing methods
Solid Couplings
Our range of solid couplings (rigid couplings) are available in stainless steel or aluminium, are primarily used for connecting two accurately aligned shafts. The design of the coupling which is available in either a one or two piece construction, prevents shaft marking or the screws from loosening during operation by precision honed bores and Nypatch anti-vibration hardware. The solid coupling range provides superior torsional holding strength.
Technical features include:
-
Does not mark the shaft
-
Nypatch anti-vibration hardware supplied
-
Precision honed bore
-
The two-piece style (stainless steel type only) is balanced and easy to assemble
-
Max speed of 4,000 rpm
-
Recommended temperature range

Flexible shaft couplings
Torsional stiffness is a key value in the accuracy of a shaft coupler: the stiffer the coupling, the more accurate the motion transmission from the motor to the driven component. In the area of servo couplings or encoder couplings, bellows couplings are some of the stiffest available.
Precision motion control applications often require shaft couplings with low wind-up to ensure accurate positioning, and low side thrust to reduce load on bearings. Most of the coupling types have either low wind-up or low side thrust, but not both.
flexible shaft Nickel Bellows Couplings (or couplers) exhibit both:
- torsional rigidity for precise position transmission
- axial, lateral and angular flexibility for misalignment compensation between shafts
